'Breathing Difficulties after Covid-19: A Guide for Primary Care' is the third in a series of Practice Pointers we have published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ). These are all outputs from the Quality Improvement Collaborative in workstream 1 of the LOCOMOTION study.

This Practice Pointer outlines the presentation and pathophysiology of breathing difficulties after covid-19. It also describes what breathing pattern disorder is, its clinical features, and useful tools to aid clinical assessment of it.

The publication also addresses questions which patients with breathing difficulties after covid-19 might ask their general practitioner:

  • Do my breathing difficulties indicate a serious or life threatening problem?
  • Why do I feel anxious?
  • What tests should I have?
  • What if the tests don’t show anything?
  • What can I do for myself?
  • Do I need to see a specialist?
  • Will breathing exercises help?
  • Will I get better—and what if I don’t?
  • What research is ongoing?

...and resources for clinicians and patients!
