LOCOMOTION Study Extended by 5 Months!

Date

The LOCOMOTION team were asked by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to start the project as high-priority immediately after funding announcement. There was a five month period before the research commenced. This time was used finalising the study documents, developing a consortium agreement, and obtaining the various regulatory approvals required. These are approvals from the Health Research Authority, Research Ethics Committee, and research departments at the NHS clinical sites departments.

We requested a five month no-cost extension from the NIHR. This was to ensure the team have sufficient time to undertake all the complex work planned across the work packages. Most of the project staff were not appointed in the initial five months, as partners required a signed consortium agreement to approve job adverts, which meant that the funding from that period could be used to fund the extension. The no-cost extension has been approved by the NIHR, and the end date for the study is now 31/12/2023.
