National Evaluation of Long COVID Services Outcomes Using ELAROS Data

Date

NHS England recently commissioned members of the LOCOMOTION study team at the University of Leeds and ELAROS digital company (pictured below) to evaluate patient outcomes in a sample of Long COVID services in England. This was conducted using data from the ELAROS Digital Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) C19-YRS platform, from the LOCOMOTION NHS clinical sites and some non-LOCOMOTION centres who signed-up to be part of the evaluation.

The aims of the evaluation were to understand:

  • The extent of symptom burden and functional disability in individuals accessing care in NHS-funded Long COVID services.
  • Condition trajectories and the extent of change in the severity of the condition in individuals receiving care in these services.

The team created a report for NHS England detailing the PROM data analysis, interpretation of results, and clinical implications. This report is now available for all to view, it also contains details on data collection methods, participants, and limitations in interpreting the results, and makes recommendations for future work to be undertaken by NHS England, Long COVID services, local commissioners, and individuals with Long COVID.

The authors recommended that NHS England continue funding Long COVID services to provide specialist care for those with persistent Long COVID.

Thank you the Long COVID services who signed-up to be part of the evaluation, the staff who prompted patients to complete their PROMs, and most importantly to all patients who consented for their data to be used for this evaluation.
