LOCOMOTION Publications

A Long COVID phenotypes systematic/meta-review has been submitted for publication. This review scoped the literature linking Long COVID symptoms with pathophysiology. The writing team conducted a meta-review of 16 systematic reviews and a systematic review of 47 individual studies not included in the systematic reviews. The findings from these reviews were grouped by the system involved, pathology, and potential therapy.

We will share this publication when it has been peer-reviewed and published!

National Evaluation of Long COVID Services Outcomes

Members of the LOCOMOTION team were commissioned by NHS England to conduct a national evaluation of Long COVID services outcomes using data from ELAROS.

The team evaluated the extent of symptom burden and functional disability, and the changes in condition severity, in patients accessing Long COVID clinics in England.

The report from this work, which recommends NHS England continue funding Long COVID services to provide specialist care, is available to read! - Click here to read more and access the report.

External Advisory Group (EAG) Meeting

The LOCOMOTION study EAG consists of members of the study team, independent experts, and public partners. In October the group met for its biannual meeting to discuss progress of the study and its next steps.

The study team received praise for the work undertaken so far, and there was positive and insightful discussion about how to achieve the objectives that had not yet been delivered in the study.

Reflective Session to Identify Lesson Learnt

With the LOCOMOTION study coming to an end soon, the team have decided to meet in December for a reflective session. The purpose of this will be to identify lessons learnt from the study, both positive and negative. These lessons will support the conduct of future studies by LOCOMOTION team members and future NIHR studies.

Sharing Results with Participants

To ensure participants of the LOCOMOTION study are aware of how they can find our about the study results, our communications group are drafting a message for workstream teams to send to their participants. This message will inform participants that they can visit our website's Outputs section and/or follow our Twitter/X account, to stay updated with the outputs from the study.

Whether participants know how they will receive results of the study, is one of the only seven questions asked on NIHR's Participant in Research Experience Survey (PRES). This highlights the importance of this information for a participant's experience, and the LOCOMOTION study want to ensure our participants enjoy their experience in research and want to participate in research again in the future.
